Details that belong to the building.
Decorative surrounds, window ledge planters and separate screens can add texture and depth around an opening. 1Contour explores these as custom concrete elements around independently framed glazing. Each proposal needs an installation review before it can become a manufactured piece.
Start with the opening and its surroundings.
Provide the opening measurements, wall construction, photographs and the location of moving window parts. Note drainage paths and access needed for opening and cleaning. Module sizes, joints and attachment points need to be developed with the building and installer in mind.
Is a decorative surround a structural lintel?
No. These concepts do not replace a structural lintel, window frame, guardrail or engineered wall. Any structural role requires a separate qualified design and approval. Exterior applications also need appropriate weather and movement detailing for the site.
Can a window ledge hold a concrete planter?
The ledge and its supports must be checked for the combined weight of the vessel, soil, plants and water. Indoor water containment and glazing clearance need a plan too. Send the intended location before settling on dimensions so the team can review whether the idea is suitable.
